5ème students explore Cubism with Picasso-Inspired Self-Portraits!

Lycée Français International Bilingue Nairobi

In their art class, our 5ème students took on an exciting challenge: creating self-portraits inspired by the Cubist style of Pablo Picasso!

Cubism, one of the most influential art movements of the 20th century, was pioneered by Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso. The idea behind it? Breaking down reality into geometric shapes and fragmented perspectives, creating a unique and abstract representation of the world.

Through this project, students discovered a new way to approach portraiture: observing their own features, deconstructing them, and reimagining their image with boldness and creativity. This exercise allowed them to develop their sense of observation, personal expression, and artistic freedom.
