Autism Conference at LFIDD: An inclusive, committed and compassionate school

On April 8th, the Lycée Français Denis Diderot of Nairobi hosted a conference dedicated to autism, as part of its ongoing commitment to building a more inclusive school environment.

Led by Edward Balke, a psychologist specialized in Autism Spectrum Disorder, the conference gave our school community the opportunity to better understand autism, the importance of early detection, and the daily challenges faced by families. With clear, accessible explanations, Edward Balke captured the attention of all attendees and encouraged meaningful, constructive dialogue.

Powerful testimonies from parents of children on the spectrum made the event even more impactful and deeply human.

Representing the school, Claire Karadi and Pierre-André presented the various support measures we have in place to ensure the success of every student: PPREs, PAPs, and personalized support provided by trained AESH staff (school life assistants), guided by our inclusion coordinator. These initiatives are made possible thanks to the dedication of our teams and the initiative of Allison Male, who founded the student support group for children with special needs at LFDD.

This conference reflects LFDD’s core mission: to be an open, caring and inclusive school where every child can learn, grow and thrive, regardless of their individual differences.
