Learning through workshops in Preschool
In French kindergarten, learning doesn’t only happen by listening. It happens by doing, exploring, and playing and that’s what workshops are all about.
Inspired by active teaching methods (like those developed by Freinet), classroom workshops promote independence, cooperation, and learning through discovery.
A workshop is more than just an activity. It’s a structured moment where children:

try, make mistakes, and try again,

grow with or without direct guidance.
Workshops can be teacher-led, semi-guided, or fully independent. Their purpose? To give meaning to learning, while nurturing essential skills like language, logic, creativity, fine motor coordination, and social interaction.
This approach is a key strength of the French early childhood education system: it builds confident learners who are active, curious, and ready for the next steps.
