Learning to swim at LFIDD: a key skill developed from primary school

In January, CE1, CE2 and CM1 students at the Lycée Français International Denis Diderot of Nairobi took part in a 15-day intensive swimming programme, fully aligned with the Physical Education curriculum.

Learning to swim is a major educational priority. It addresses essential issues related to safety, health and student autonomy, while giving children access to sporting and recreational activities with confidence.

Through regular and structured sessions, students gradually developed their water skills: immersion, floating, movement coordination and confidence in the aquatic environment. The intensive format allowed for strong continuity in learning and effective skill development.

This programme is part of a long-term progression from primary school to secondary education, supporting students in achieving key swimming competencies and preparing them for future certifications.

Through initiatives like this, LFIDD demonstrates its commitment to holistic education, combining academic learning with physical development and essential life skills.
