LFIDD Nairobi: Plant Learning & Environmental Education in a School Garden | AEFE Network
As part of its innovative educational approach, the Lycée Français International Denis Diderot, a leading international school in Nairobi and member of the AEFE network, offers students hands-on and immersive learning experiences.
PS/MS students (Early Years) and CE2A students took part in a rich learning session in the school garden, alongside Sylvie Lewicki, regional representative of the CIRAD.
Understanding Plants Through Observation
Through age-appropriate discussions and activities, students explored:
- The plant life cycle
- Essential needs (water, sunlight, soil)
- The role of plants in ecosystems
- The benefits of plants for humans and the environment
Younger students engaged through sensory exploration, while CE2 students developed a deeper scientific understanding.
Hands-on Learning in a Real Environment
The session continued with a learning walk in the nursery school garden, where Grade 2 students observed firsthand the benefits of plants: food, biodiversity, well-being, and climate impact.
This experience reflects LFIDD’s core educational values:Une approche qui illustre pleinement les valeurs du LFIDD :
- Experiential learning
- Environmental education
- Scientific curiosity and inquiry
