Looking back at the Denis Diderot Trophy 2025: Sport, unity and school spirit
The Lycée Français Denis Diderot of Nairobi proudly hosted the 2025 edition of the Denis Diderot Trophy, 13 years after its first edition was held in Kenya. This major sporting event brought together many young rugby players aged 10 to 11, from AEFE schools, international schools in Kenya, and partner schools from underprivileged areas of Nairobi.
For three days, the LFDD fields came alive with thrilling matches and an atmosphere of fair play and camaraderie. The tournament was a true celebration of the values of sport – respect, teamwork, perseverance and togetherness.
LFDD teams rose to the challenge, winning all three trophies in front of an enthusiastic crowd of spectators. A grandstand was set up for the occasion to welcome the public and create a festive atmosphere. The victories rewarded the dedication and hard work of our students and their coaches, but above all, it was the spirit of rugby that triumphed.
The tournament was also a time of cultural exchange. Students from the Lycée Français of Johannesburg were warmly hosted by LFDD families before heading to Naivasha for a retreat. Together, the students formed the “French School Barbarians” team, which proudly took home the Boys 10’s and Girls 7’s trophies.
Beyond competition, the tournament was about building friendships, creating memories, and sharing a common experience. The event would not have been possible without the incredible support of LFDD parents, staff, coaches, and many volunteers.
