Africa Forward Summit 2026 Nairobi: LFIDD Students Explore AI, African Innovation and France–Kenya Cooperation

On May 11, 2026, Nairobi hosted the Africa Forward Summit, a major international event jointly organized by France and Kenya.  Led by His Excellency Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic, and His Excellency William Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya, the summit brought together decision-makers, innovators, entrepreneurs, and cultural leaders shaping the future of the African continent. As part of this exceptional event, five  Grade 11 and 12 students from the Model United Nations (MUN) program  at the Lycée Français International Denis Diderot  had the privilege of attending several high-level sessions.

Future Makers: AI and French Tech Driving African Entrepreneurship

During the Future Makers session, students immersed themselves in Africa’s rapidly evolving tech ecosystem. Discussions, alongside presidential interventions, highlighted key drivers of the continent’s growth:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)  and digital transformation
  • Digital economy  and data management
  • Creative industries, digital marketing, and media
  • Youth leadership  and the rise of African startups

This experience allowed students to better understand how technological innovation and entrepreneurship are reshaping global economic relationships and positioning Africa as a key innovation hub.

African Voices: Cultural Sovereignty and International Cooperation

In the afternoon, attention shifted toward cultural diplomacy and soft power  during the African Voices panel. Alongside prominent figures such as   Eléonore Caroit, French Minister Delegate for Francophonie, International Partnerships and French Nationals Abroad, and Françoise Remarck, Minister of Culture and Francophonie of Côte d’Ivoire, students explored critical topics including: Restitution of African cultural property  and Heritage cooperation between Africa and Europe.

Students also discovered the work of ALIPH , whose initiatives highlight the essential role of cultural heritage in promoting peace and preserving collective memory.

An AEFE Education Connected to Global Challenges

A memorable highlight of the day: some students had the opportunity to shake hands with President Emmanuel Macron. Beyond this symbolic moment, the summit experience fully reflects the mission of the  LFIDD  and Agence pour l’enseignement français à l’étranger  network providing an education deeply connected to international realities and global challenges.

By participating in the Africa Forward Summit, our students gained valuable insight into the profound transformations shaping contemporary Africa — from technological innovation and entrepreneurship to cultural sovereignty and international cooperation.
