On October 6 and 7, the Lycée Français Denis Diderot of Nairobi welcomed Dismed, a French-speaking teleconsultation platform, for two days of conferences dedicated to inclusive education. These sessions brought together teachers and parents, united around a common goal: better understanding DYS disorders and ADHD, in order to support every student according to their individual needs.
Understanding DYS disorders and ADHD
DYS disorders include several specific learning difficulties: dyslexia (reading), dyspraxia (motor coordination), dysphasia (oral language), dyscalculia (math), dysorthography (spelling), and dysgraphia (writing).
These challenges are not linked to intelligence but result from a different brain organization, which makes some learning processes more complex without appropriate support.
ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is characterized by attention difficulties, impulsivity, or hyperactivity, often leading to academic or social challenges.
Understanding these mechanisms is essential to implement effective strategies: adapting instructions, encouraging oral participation, allowing breaks, and reinforcing positive behavior.
Working together for student success
Through Dismed, French-speaking families can now access a network of specialists (speech therapists, psychomotor therapists, neuropsychologists, etc.) anywhere in the world.
This collaboration between the school, families, and healthcare professionals will enable better support for students with specific learning needs, while strengthening the efforts of our teaching teams.
LFIDD is now formalizing a partnership with Dismed, marking a new step in our commitment to inclusion.
Our ambition: to ensure that every child, regardless of their differences, can learn, progress, and thrive in a caring and supportive environment.
