There are two types of contracts at the Lycée Denis Diderot

  • resident contracts
  • local contracts

Resident contracts are intended for teachers with diplomas in the national education system. The list of vacant posts or those likely to be filled is communicated in February of the current year.

Resident staff have the status of seconded civil servant. They receive their French salary plus a specific local living allowance (ISVL) and a family allowance to cover the school fees for their children.

They are recruited by the Director of the AEFE on the proposal of the head of the school, following the opinion of the local joint consultative committees (CCPL).

The list of vacant or likely to be vacant posts is communicated in February of the current year.

Local contracts are open to national education and non-national education teaching staff and to service and administrative staff.

Staff on local contracts are recruited directly by the Management Committee. They are subject to the Kenyan labour code and benefit from a local law contract. Consequently, staff under local law contracts are obliged to contribute to the Kenyan health insurance scheme (NHIF) and pension scheme (NSSF), independently of any other social protection affiliation (or affiliation by the spouse).

Similarly, salaries paid under local law contracts are subject to mandatory Kenyan income tax. Income tax is deducted at source.

French civil servants are reminded that recruitment to a local contract position does not give any right to residency, i.e. appointment to a civil service post.
