Science Week LFIDD Nairobi | International Scientists Inspire Students

An Immersion into Scientific Careers

As part of Science Week, students from middle and high school at the Lycée Français International Denis Diderot (LFIDD) took part in several inspiring events.

Throughout the week, they met international scientists and experts from different fields.

Thanks to these discussions, students discovered careers in research, health, and sustainable development.

They also explored a variety of inspiring professional journeys.

Experts Addressing Global Challenges

First, 6e students met Sylvie Lewicki, Regional Director of CIRAD for East Africa.

They discussed agronomy, sustainable agriculture, and future food challenges.

Next, Year 10 students and Physics-Chemistry students met Lydia Roos, a particle physicist and Research Director at CNRS.

They also exchanged with Paul-André Calatayud, Director of IRD.

In addition, 5e students learned about public health with Fatimata Ouedraogo.

Finally, 4e and Seconde students met Carole Goulet Caron, a veterinarian specialising in global health.

Connecting science to the real world

These meetings helped students understand the role of science in society.

They discovered how researchers tackle major global challenges.

Discussions focused on several important topics:

  • sustainable development;
  • scientific research;
  • global health;
  • public health;
  • the connection between animal and human health.

Moreover, the speakers shared their professional experiences.

As a result, students gained a clearer understanding of science in everyday life.

Developing Curiosity and Critical Thinking

Beyond scientific knowledge, the week encouraged curiosity and reflection.

Students asked many questions during the sessions.

They also learned about different academic and career pathways.

Through these exchanges, they strengthened their critical thinking skills and global awareness.

Inspiring future scientists

Finally, Science Week reflects LFIDD’s commitment to future-focused education.

The school promotes learning that is open to the world.

These meetings help students imagine future scientific careers.

They also inspire the next generation of researchers, doctors, engineers, and changemakers.
