Science Week at LFIDD Nairobi: Inspiring Encounters with International Scientists

 Exploring science through real-world expertise

As part of Science Week, middle and high school students at the Lycée Français International Denis Diderot in Nairobi had the unique opportunity to meet internationally recognized scientists and experts from various scientific fields.

From particle physics and agronomy to public health and global health, these encounters allowed students to discover meaningful scientific careers and better understand today’s global challenges

Inspiring experts tackling global challenges

Throughout the week, several talks and discussions were organized:

  • 6eme students met Sylvie Lewicki, Regional Director for East Africa at CIRAD, to discuss agronomy and sustainable development.
  • Physics and chemistry students, along with 3eme students, met Lydia Roos, particle physicist and Research Director at CNRS, and Paul-André Calatayud, Director at IRD.
  • 5eme students met public health specialist Fatimata Ouedraogo.
  • 4eme and high school students met Carole Goulet Caron, a veterinarian specialized in global health.

Connecting science to the real world

These exchanges helped students better understand the role of science in addressing global issues such as:

  • Sustainability
  • Scientific research
  • Global health
  • Public health
  • Animal and human health connections

Students also discovered inspiring professional journeys that encourage curiosity, critical thinking, and international awareness.

Inspiring future scientists

Through Science Week, the school continues to promote innovative, internationally minded education that prepares students for the challenges of tomorrow.

These encounters help inspire the next generation of scientists, researchers, and global changemakers.
